This guide specifically covers the procedure to root Verizon variant of Galaxy Note 7.

  • This guide is specifically for Verizon variant of Galaxy Note 7, so make sure you are using the same variant.
  • The device battery must be fully charged or have at least 70% battery life before starting the process of rooting.
  • A Windows based PC.
  • Install USB drivers on your PC if they are not installed you may download it from here.
  • ADB and Fastboot drivers must be properly installed on PC if it’s not installed then download and install Minimal ADB and Fastboot drivers from here.

Note 7 Rooting Steps

Verizon Note 7 rooting steps are divided into three parts. In the first part you need to flash leaked Sprint firmware, second part based on the installation of carrier specific ROM and in the final part you will be able to root Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

Flashing Leaked Sprint ROM on Verizon Note 7

Step 1. Enable Developer Options:

  • Go to Note 7 Settings >> Tap on About Phone.
  • Tap Build Number 7 times.
  • A toast message will appear at the bottom-center that reads ‘You are now a Developer’.

Step 2. Enable OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging:

  • Go to Note 7 Settings >> Tap on Developer Options.
  • Enable both OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging.

Step 3. The download link of the leaked Sprint ROM is given above, download it on your PC and unzip the zip file to get the file with .tar extension.

Step 4. Download the latest Odin zip from the link given above and extract the files on your PC.

Step 5. Now launch Odin by double-clicking on Odin.vx.xx.exe file.

Step 6. Boot device into Download Mode:

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold these keys Volume-Down + Home + Power simultaneously.
  • Once you see the Warning message screen, release the keys.
  • Then press Volume-Up key to continue into download mode.

Step 7. Use the stock USB cable to connect device to PC and make sure device is detected by PC.

Step 8. Once the device connected, ID:COM port on Odin will turn Blue and you’ll see “Added!!” message in the log, which indicates successful connection.

Step 9. Click AP button on Odin, browse and select Sprint ROM file.

Step 10. In the Options section of Odin, unchecked everything else except following:

  • Auto Reboot
  • F. Reset Time

Step 11. Hit the Start button on Odin to start the process of installation.

Step 12. You’ll get a PASS! message on Odin, which indicates a successful flash.

Step 13. The device will reboot automatically right after the process is completed.

Step 14. Wait until your device boots up.

Step 15. Skip all the initial setup screens which will appear right after your device booted up.

Step 16. Wait until you see a blank screen and then proceed to flash your carrier specific ROM.

Flashing Carrier Specific ROM on Note 7

Step 1. Verizon’s stock firmware link is listed above, click on the link to download the firmware file.

Step 2. Boot device into Download Mode ( as described in Step 4 of first section )

Step 3. Use any unzip tool to extract the firmware file on your PC.

Step 4. Launch Odin window by double-clicking on Odin.exe.

Step 5. Connect the device to PC using stock USB cable.

Step 6. Browse and select the files for:

  • BL
  • CP
  • CP
  • CSC

Note: You must add the firmware components to corresponding slots. Do not select the AP file.

Step 7. Click Start button on Odin and wait until the process finished.

The device will reboot automatically after the installation of ROM is completed. The first boot will take longer than usual. it will take approx 30 minutes to completely boot your device, so be patient.

Steps to Root Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Step 1. After your device has successfully booted, skip through all the initial setup screens. Then go into Settings > About Phone and tap on Build Number 7 times, this will enable the Developer Options on your device.

Step 1. You’ll see few initial setup screen right after the first boot, skip all the setup screens.

Step 2. Enable Developer Options.

  • Open Settings >> About Phone
  • Tap on Build Number 7 times
  • This will enable the Developer Options

Step 3. Enable OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging.

  • Go to Settings >> Developer Options
  • Check mark the OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging

Step 4. Minimal ADB and Fastboot should be installed on your device as described in the requirements section. Download  SuperSU-v2.74-2 ( file, extract the file to a folder named “sun7”.

Step 5. Transfer “sun7” folder to Minimal ADB and Fastboot drivers folder.

Step 6. Launch Minimal ADB and Fastboot window on your PC and connect the device to PC. USB debugging pop-up will appear on screen, accept it and change the Charging mode to File Transfer mode.

Step 7. Push the following command via Minimal ADB and Fastboot window:

  • adb shell <Press Enter>

Step 8: Then push the following command:

  • su

Step 9. If you see “#” symbol, it means command executed successfully. Now type “exit” twice to get back to the command prompt.

Step 10. Now execute the following command to push the sun7 folder to your device storage:

  • adb push sun7 /data/local/tmp/su

Step 11. Change the permissions of the sun7 folder in your device. To do this, push the following command:

  • adb shell chmod 0777 /data/local/tmp/su/*

Step 12. To launch ADB shell, push the following command:

  • adb shell

Step 13. Browse “su” folder by executing the command given below:

  • cd /data/local/tmp/su/

Step 14. Now it’s time to gain root privileges, push the following command:

  • su

Step 15. Execute the file by typing the command given below:

  • ./

This last rooting step will reboot your device and you’ll have a rooted Note 7 without the data working. Follow the steps of this last part to get back data services.

Getting Data on Your Rooted Verizon Note 7

Step 1. First install a file explore with root privileges on your device.

Step 2. The APN files (apns-conf.xml) download link is listed in the Downloads section. Download and transfer the file to your device storage.

Step 3. The original apns-conf file in ‘system/etc’ folder of your device contains sprint data info. First delete this original file and then paste the one you copied.

Step 4. No change the permission of this file to ‘rw-r-r’:

  • Select the file
  • Open Properties
  • Change permissions as shown below:


Step 5. Browse ‘/data/data/’ and delete ‘telephony.db’.

Step 6. Finally reboot the device.
