S Bike Mode is one of the interesting feature of this device, which helps you to reduce distractions while driving or riding. The camera results are just average, and the benchmark scores of chipset are not up to the mark.  But overall its a good device for budget segment users.

Today in this article we will show you how to install a TWRP custom recovery and root Samsung Galaxy J3 3G Duos SM-J320H/ DS. This process is very simple, you do not need to push commands or install ADB. Special thanks to XDA Senior contributor ashynx.

Please Note

The steps of this guide is only for Samsung Galaxy J3 3G Duos, model no. SMJ320H/DS, Chipset- Spreadtrum SC8830A. Make sure you are using the right device otherwise it will brick your any other device.

About Knox Counter

Knox is basically a good security feature introduced by Samsung. No doubt, it is a very helpful feature, and its useful if your device is lost or stolen. It protects your privacy and data, and it’s restrict to reset factory settings, or flash ROMs without owners permission. Moreover, it also log record number of times your phone has been modified i.e., rooting, flashing and modification. If the Knox counter is tripped, all the security features will be disabled, and your phone warranty will be void. But reflashing the stock ROM will not reset the Knox counter. There is no mature method of resetting Knox, but there are some experimental methods available on XDA.

The method we are going to use in this guide will trip your Knox counter.

Systemless Root

Systemless root method defined by Chainfire back in 2015. Using this method you can achieve root access without modifying the /system partition, because this method does its job in the /boot partition. Normally this method is used for almost all Samsung devices running Android 5.1 or above. Here are some advantages of this method:

  • OTA Updates installation is easier.
  • You can easily unroot your device.
  • Chances of soft bricking your device are very less.

This method we will use in this guide uses systemless root.


It’s fact that rooting is a very risky process. It will surely void your device warranty, and there are chances that you can get bricked any time. So, proceed at your own risk.


1. Download and extract Odin v3.12.3 tool on your windows based PC.

2. Make sure all the device drivers are properly installed in your PC and in working order.

3. Turn on the Developer Options on your phone:

  • Open phone Settings
  • Tap on About devices
  • Go to Software info
  • Now tap on Build number seven times

4. Now turn on the USB Debugging and OEM Unlocking in Developer Options.

5. Download and transfer twrp_3.0.2-1_sm-j320h_261016.tar file to your PC and place this file in the Odin extracted folder.

6. Download and transfer SuperSU v2.78 on the SD Card of your phone:

7. Download this pre-rooted Boot Image file on your PC:

8. Use any unzip to extract the boot.image file and then transfer it to your device’s SD Card.

9. Take a complete backup of your device data.

10. Make sure your device is fully charged or at least 80%.

Steps to Install TWRP and Root Samsung Galaxy J3 3G Duos

1. Switch to Download Mode:

  • Power off your device
  • Press Home+Power+Volume Down keys altogether
  • You will see a screen with a warning message
  • Press Volume Up key to continue

2. Use the stock USB cable to connect your device to PC.

3. Open Odin folder in your PC, launch Odin as administrator. ID:COM on Odin will turn blue if the device has been connected properly.

4. Click on AP button, browse and select twrp_3.0.2-1_sm-j320h_261016.tar file.

5. Click on Options tab.

6. Uncheck Auto Reboot.

7. Hit the Start button.

8. Once the process completed successfully, reboot your device to switch to recovery mode:

  • Press Power+Home+Volume Down keys simultaneously
  • When you see the blank screen, press Power+Home+Volume Up keys together

9. Now your system is in TWRP Recovery.

10. Select Wipe >> Format data

11. After the process is completed successfully, press the back button, and select Reboot >> Recovery.

12. The device will boot into recovery mode once again.

Systemless Root

1. From TWRP main menu, select install.

2. Now select the SuperSU zip file and swipe right to flash it.

3. Then flash the boot.img file in the same way.

4. Finally wipe cache and reboot to system.

That’s all.

Congrats! Go to app drawer where you will find SuperSU. If you want to check the root status of your device, download and install the Root Checker app from the Play Store.
