With improved picture quality of 16 MP back and 5 MP of front camera, up to 4 GB RAM and a fingerprint scanner, Moto G4 Plus is the ideal choice over Moto G4 if you want to enjoy a good smartphone in this price range. Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 is the factory default OS of Moto G4 Plus so the user experience is closer to Nexus series. There are some nifty features added like double twist to launch the camera, double chop to trigger flashlight etc.
Moto G4 Plus user experience is very minimal and the available options for customization are also minimal, but now we have resources to enhance our user experience by customizing our gadgets according to our liking and requirements but for that we need a rooted device. So here is the rooting tutorial for the Moto G4 Plus.
Before starting with this step by step guide make sure your Moto G4 Plus bootloader is unlocked. You can unlock the bootloader of your Moto G4 / G4 Plus with the help of this guide:

- TWRP 3.0.2-2
- SuperSU v2.62-3 Beta
Steps To Root Moto G4 Plus With TWRP Custom Recovery
Step 1. Download BETA-SuperSU-v2.62-3-20151211162651.zip zip file and transfer it to the internal storage of Moto G4 Plus.
Step 2. Minimal ADB and Fastboot should be properly setup on your PC. You can learn more about it from here.
Step 3. Download twrp_athene_20160526.img from the link given above and transfer it to the Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder.
Step 4. Now switch to Bootloader mode. To do this, turn off the device and then press and hold Power + Volume Down keys altogether for few seconds only.
Step 5. Once the device get into the Bootloader mode connect it with your PC using stock USB cable.
Step 6. Launch Minimal ADB and Fastboot on your PC.
Step 7. Push the below code to device via Minimal ADB and Fastboot command prompt window:
fastboot flash recovery twrp_athene_20160526.img
Step 8. Download Root-motog4-athena.zip zip file and unzip it on your PC.
Step 9. Open the folder in which you have extracted the Root-motog4-athena.zip file.
Step 10. Find and launch the ‘ROOT.bat’ file.
Step 11. The automated batch file script encapsulated in ‘ROOT.bat’ file will flash the custom boot image on your device which clears the path to root your device. Wait for few seconds until it gets finished.
Step 12. Now switch to TWRP custom recovery. To do so, fist make sure your device is in bootloader mode then select the Recovery option from the TWRP main menu. Use the volume down key to scroll through the options and volume up to select an option.
Step 13. In TWRP main menu select Install option and browse the SuperSU zip file which you have already copied to your device storage. Select the SuperSU zip file and swipe where appropriate to install it in your device.
Step 14. Reboot to system.
Finally you have rooted your Moto G4 Plus. Now you can customize your rooted device according to your need. To check the root status download the Root checker app from the Play Store.
