How to Root Galaxy Note 7 SM-N930F / FD Exynos Variants

If you own this amazing phablet and searching for a rooting guide you are at the right place.  So, if you’re ready, let’s start with the tutorial on how to root Galaxy Note 7 SM-N930F / FD (Exynos Variants only).

This rooting tutorial of Galaxy Note 7 is divided into two part. In the first part you need to flash a custom recovery and then with the help of custom recovery you will install SuperSU.

TeamWin’s TWRP is a custom recovery that we will be using in this guide. It’s a very popular custom recovery among the players of rooting game which allows to perform some advance actions:

Disclaimer: Please note that, applying the rooting steps will trip device Knox counter and your device’s warranty will be void. So perform all the actions at your own risk. Also, make sure you take backup of your device data before proceeding further.

Prerequisites

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 7 SM-N930F / FD (Exynos Variants)
  • Windows based PC

This guide is for Note 7 SM-N930F / FD Exynos Variants only, make sure you are using the appropriate device with the Exynos variant of the processor. Do not apply the procedures of this guide on SnapDragon variant of Note 7.

Steps to Root Galaxy Note 7 SM-N930F / FD

Installing TWRP

Step 1. Enable Developer options on Note 7.

  • Open Settings >> Tap on About Phone >> Tap on Build Number 7 Times

Step 2. Now go back to Settings >> Developer options >> enable OEM Unlock.

Step 3. Download and Install the Samsung USB driver on your PC. Skip this step if the drivers are already installed.

Step 4. Download TWRP custom recovery and SuperSU zip file from the link given above.

Step 5. Transfer SuperSU zip file to your device.

Step 6. Download and extract the latest version of Odin on your PC (link given above).

Step 7. Launch Odin window on PC by double-clicking on Odin.exe file.

Step 8. Boot Note 7 into Download mode.

  • Power off the device
  • Press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power keys simultaneously for few seconds
  • You should see a warning message on mobile screen
  • Press Volume Up key to accept the warning message and continue boot into Download mode

Step 9. Connect the device to PC using a stock USB cable. You’ll get a “Added!” message in the log and you will notice a blue button at the top.

Step 10. Click AP button >> Browse and select firmware file.

Step 11. In Option tab only check mark F. Reset Time, uncheck everything else.

Step 12. Press Start button and wait for few minutes.

You’ll notice a success message in the log and a green box saying PASS would appear at the top.

Flashing SuperSU to Achieve Root Access

Step 1. Unplug the device from PC. Press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power keys for few seconds. This hardware key combination will boot your device into freshly installed custom recovery TWRP.

Step 2. Next, you’ll see a screen asking to allow system modifications. Swipe right to continue.

Step 3. Select Wipe option and swipe where appropriate to format data of device.

Step 4. Select Install option >> browse SuperSU zip file >> Swipe where appropriate to confirm the action. This will install the SuperSU zip file on your Note 7.

Step 5. Finally reboot to system

Your device will be booted up and you will find it rooted in few minutes.

Congrats! You have successfully Root and Install TWRP custom recovery on your Galaxy Note 7.
